Activate Ultra Mobile SIM card with a new number or by transferring your existing number–the process is simple.
Which SIM card do you want to activate?
- Regular SIM card ( purple ) that requires you to pay for the first month of service in advance
- Preloaded SIM card ( orange ) that is equipped with the first month of service.
The activation process for a preloaded SIM card is faster. You won’t need to pay for the first month of service because it is already included.
Activate Ultra Mobile SIM Card
First, let’s take a look at how to activate Ultra Mobile SIM card online (purple).
You will have the option to get a new number or port (transfer) your existing number at a later step in the activation.
1. Visit Ultra Mobile’s activation page
Start by going to https://my.ultramobile.com/activation, and choose the purple SIM card option.
2. Locate the 19 digit ICCID number
The ICCID number is located on the back of the SIM card, just below the barcode. Enter that number in the ICCID input field and hit the “Start or Resume your Activation” button.
3. Transfer or get new number
On the next page, you will have the option to activate Ultra Mobile SIM card with a new number or transfer an existing number. So, you might want to get your account number and password before you start the activation.
4. Select a plan
Ultra Mobile plans start at $19 and end at $49. Currently, Ultra Mobile does not have pay-as-you-go plans. The $45 plan has the most data!
5. Choose your area code
Your area code will be based on the zip code you provide. For example, if you want a 599 area code, enter a zip code that is within the 559 area.
6. Pay for your first month of service
Furthermore, you will need a credit card to successfully activate Ultra Mobile SIM card.
Ultra Mobile activation fee?
Ultra Mobile itself does not charge an activation fee; however, some unauthorized retailers do. You can avoid paying an activation fee by activating your SIM card on Ultra Mobile’s website.
Finally, the last step is to program your APN data settings so you can access the internet (it isn’t as complicated as it sounds).
How to activate preloaded Ultra mobile SIM card online.
Activating a preloaded SIM card is a little different (faster) than activating a purple SIM card. The difference is that a preloaded SIM card is already equipped with the first month of service; therefore, you won’t need to use your credit card to pay for anything. All you need is the SIM.
1. Choose the Orange SIM option
Just like the purple SIM card, go to https://my.ultramobile.com/activation and select the orange SIM card option.
2. Find the Act Code
On the back of the SIM card, you will see a faded area. Scratch it off to reveal the Act Code and enter it in the Activation Code field. Finally, hit “Start or Resume Activation”.
3. Choose your Ultra Mobile area code
On the next page, enter your zip code. This will determine your area code, so make sure you use a zip code that is within the area code you of your choosing.
For example, a zip code of 93256 will generate a 559 area code, a 93215 zip code will generate a 661 area code and so on.
Programming the data settings is a breeze!
Alternatively, you can activate the preloaded Ultra Mobile SIM card using the automated phone system.
- Dial 888-899-0820
- When prompted, enter your Act Code located on the back of the SIM card
- When prompted, enter your zip code. Your area code will be based on the zip code you provide.
- Write down your phone number
- Insert your SIM card in the SIM slot
- Program data settings (This option applies to T-mobile and unlocked GSM phones only)
In some situation, the activation process may take up to 30 minutes. In such a rare situation, hang up the phone and insert your SIM card in the SIM slot. Power on your phone and wait for a confirmation message.
Can I activate a preloaded SIM for the same number if I am already a customer with Ultra Mobile?
If you already have service with Ultra Mobile, then you cannot buy a preloaded SIM card and transfer your Ultra Mobile number to it, you must get a new number.
Ultra Mobile (and other service providers) have preloaded SIM card to attract new customers. So, another question is:
What if I’m with a different carrier and I want to switch to Ultra Mobile. Can I transfer my number if I wanted to use a preloaded SIM card?
I don’t have an answer to that yet, but I will post it as soon as I do. So, I just got in touch with an Ultra Mobile customer service representative and it turns out that it is possible to transfer your non-Ultra Mobile number over if you’re using a preloaded SIM card.
Ultra Mobile Data Settings
Ultra Mobile has made it extremely simple to program the data and MMS (APN) settings on your device.
They have a tool on their website that does all the heavy lifting for you. (Some phones are not compatible to use this tool.)
- Go to https://ultramobile.com/data-settings
- Enter your phone’s IMEI number. You can find that number by going to settings->about
- Choose your platform Andriod, IOS, or other
- Enter your phone’s phone number. You should receive a text message containing a link to an app. Click on that link and download the app.
If your phone does not support automatic settings, you will need to program the APN settings manually, but don’t let that scare — it’s really easy.
To do this:
- Go to https://ultramobile.com/data-settings
- Enter your devices’ IMEI number (dial *#06# on your phone’s keypad to retrieve your phone’s IMEI number)
- Click on “Look up IMEI”
- Use the information that is given to navigate to your phone’s APN settings.
- Enter the required information in the appropriate fields.
Alternatively, you can look up your IEMI manually. The option to do that is just below the “Look up IMEI” button.
On the next screen follow the steps to navigate to your phone’s APN and MMS tap and enter the information provided.
Transfer Number to Ultra Mobile
Before you can transfer your number to Ultra Mobile, you will need to get your account information from your current service provider.
Don’t cancel your service till the transfer is complete. You will lose your number forever if you do. It will be safe to cancel your old service once your phone number has been successfully transferred to Ultra Mobile.
The information that is needed depends on whether you are on prepaid plan or a contract.
What you will need if you are on a prepaid plan:
- Account number
- Account password
- Phone number
Call your current service provider to obtain this information and to successfully activate Ultra Mobile SIM card.
Information such as your first and last name and address are only optional and not required, so don’t freak out if your current service provider doesn’t have that information.
If you are on a contract, you will need:
- First and last name
- Account passcode
- Phone number
- Social security number
The easiest way to get your information is by calling your service provider. Once you have this information ready, you can proceed in transferring your number to Ultra Mobile.
In addition, to avoid a delay in transferring your existing number, all the information that you provide must be correct.
Keep in mind that the account information needed to transfer a number over to another carrier applies to all activations — online, over the phone, or at a store.
Ultra Mobile Compatible Phones
T-Mobile branded or GSM unlocked cell phones will work just fine on any Ultra Mobile plan.
Also, carrier locked GSM cell phones can be used for just talk and text. Consequently, the data will not work unless the phone is unlocked or T-mobile branded.
